The hardworking people of West Virginia deserve to be heard. I am passionate about standing up for those who too often don't have a voice in the government. I have almost two decades of experience in protecting workers' rights, maintaining jobs, and helping companies succeed while doing right by their staff. With my background, I intend to bring back productive government in Washington, DC, for the good of the Mountain State.
I am also a fierce advocate for disabled Americans. After being diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2010, I've gained a new perspective on living with disabilities and illnesses. However, MS hasn't slowed me down; I've been fortunate enough to continue fighting for all West Virginians.
Experience and Education
For 17 years, I have worked in organized labor, representing the members of the Communication Workers of America (CWA). I fought for the wages and benefits that Verizon employees deserved while also helping the company remain profitable. After many successes, I gained a reputation for finding common ground and resolutions that were satisfactory for both employees and employers. I believes there's no need for "winners and losers"; the ideal solution results in positive changes for all involved.
My ability to bring differing sides together on virtually any issue is what has made me so successful as president of CWA Local 2003 — and it's what makes me the perfect choice to represent West Virginia's 3rd Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Furthermore, I hold a doctorate in law degree, so I understand what kind of legislation can actually pass and what is merely campaign promises.
